جاء في جريدة الزمان في العام 1950، أن مصلحة الآثار وأثناء التنقيب عن الآثار في ضواحي مدينة صور، ظهرت ثلاثة نواويس رخامية على همق بسيط تبيّن أنها تعود إلى العهد الروماني. وتوقّع الخبراء العثور على نحو 50 ناووسا من هذا النوع في قطر لا يتجاوز الكيلومترين من مكان الحفريات. ويظهر أن المكان كان مدفناً لعظماء الرومان وقوّادهم وأمرائهم ... من أرشيف ربيع يوسف - مشغرةAs published in Al-Zaman newspaper in 1950:
"During archaeological excavations on the outskirts of the city of Tyre, the Department of Antiquities discovered three marble sarcophagi at a shallow depth, which were found to date back to the Roman era.
Experts anticipated finding around 50 sarcophagi of this type within a radius of no more than two kilometers from the excavation site. It appears that the location was a burial ground for prominent Roman figures, commanders, and princes..."
