مارينوس الصوري  : 
هو ابرز من عمل في الجغرافيا في الحقبة الفينيقية، فقد وضع خريطة للعالم القديم مستندا في معلوماته على ما كان ينقله البحارة الصوريون من أخبار عن العالم.كان مارينوس متأكداً من كروية الأرض، مما جعله يسنبط خطوط الطول والعرض التي استفاد منها تلميذه بطليموس اليوناني لتحديد الأماكن على الخريطة. 

 Marinus of Tyre was the most prominent geographer of the Phoenician era. He created a map of the ancient world based on the accounts and reports of Tyrian sailors. Confident that the Earth is round, Marinus developed the system of latitude and longitude lines, which his student, the Greek scholar Ptolemy, later used to locate places on maps.
